quote by Gordon B. Hinkley

This quote, by Gordon B. Hinkley has a lot of meaning to me.
"Respect yourself. Do not feel sorry for yourself. Do not dwell on unkind things others may say about you. Polish and refine whatever talents the Lord has given you. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, but with great and strong purpose in your heart."

Sewing skirts

Been wanting to do things for myself so I drafted an a-line skirt pattern. The first skirt turned out good. it's in a darker tan crinkle like cotton fabric. It's very acceptable to wear to Church. The other skirt is a pheasant type made from a light pink gauze fabric. I could of done better, but, I'm still wearing it.  Next one, I'll learn from my mistakes.
I ordered some fabric to make various tops, skirts and dresses. a lot of times, I don't sew for myself because I don't want to mess up the fabric. Why am I that way?  Everything is washed ready to go, now to see what it can become.

Getting Here

Why did I jump on the blogging bandwagon?  I had to think long and hard as to why I wanted to blog…..Well…it’s time for me to get my thoughts out and have them make some sort of sense.
A little about me. I’m 55, a widow with 3 grown children, a found Birthdaughter, and 1 very darling granddaughter. My husband of 30 1/2 years past away of heart disease at the age of 53 in February of 2007. He had his first heart attack and triple bypass at age 30. That began my life at age 26 as a semi-caretaker and homemaker. Our babies was in 1st grade, kindergarten and 8 months old. The year was 1984.
Some of the things I like to do, include quilting, sewing, mending, crochet, knit, cooking, reading, machine embroidery, hand embroidery, etc etc.
My oldest brother, Mike, said to me one day, that life is like chapters in a book. Growing up was one chapter, life with Dan was another chapter, and as my life progresses, more chapters are read/added to the book of my life. So as I turned to what I call my mourning time chapter, I laid down 99.5% of  everything.
Have I mentioned what else was going on in my life at that time?? My Mom passed away 6 1/2 months before my husband did, and in Jan 2007, my oldest Daughter, was told she had cervical cancer at age 30.
Can you tell where this going? I was a total basketcase….. until My Heavenly Father stepped in.  He has the power to give you peace, joy and happiness. all you have to do is ask. He doesn't say life will be easy, but, He does say that he will be there with you.
So with this “new chapter” of my life,  It's about being a Latter Day Saint and who I am now. Have a good day everyone, and remember, enjoy your life.
